TODDLER EDUCATION

Ages 2 to 3

A toddler's need for independence and control is respected in Montessori. We meet this need by teaching our toddlers to do things for themselves at very young ages. Our goal is to teach them to tend to their needs as soon as we see they are capable. By doing so they develop confidence and valuable life skills. There is also a tremendous focus on building the foundations for success in math, expanding their vocabulary and early literacy skills, and developing their emotional and social skills. Much of the work the children do at this level is targeted to develop the child's fine muscle control in preparation for writing later on.

Visit the About page to learn more about the activities the children do in their classroom.

PRESCHOOL AND PRE-K

Ages 3 to 5 Years

Academics take off once the children enter the preschool years. The activities are self-paced, hands-on, and multi-sensory in their delivery. Work on the shelves appeals to the child's natural curiosity as students explore mathematics, language, astronomy, biology, art, cultures, and much, much more. Montessori children frequently enter kindergarten able to read and write, count to one hundred, as well as do arithmetic into the thousands. With these skills, young children are easily capable of doing work not usually seen until first or second grade.

Learning the Montessori Way

3 year old girl completing a phonics exercise independently

A three-year-old doing a phonics lesson. She's sorting a set of objects based on their beginning sound. Phonics are practiced at circle time each day therefore she is able to do this work independently.

3 year old students using the constructive triangles

Here a young girl works with the constructive triangles. She has learned that she can build large shapes using smaller ones and is also being introduced to equilateral, isosceles, and scalene triangles.

a 4 year old completing the hundred board independently

This four-year-old is practicing counting using the hundred board. Following his mastery of counting to one hundred independently he will then begin to add and subtract numbers into the hundreds, and later into the thousands.

My three year old transitioned from daycare to preschool at Tiny Plum and he is excited to go each day, and I am excited to hear what he has learned each day! Very professionally run, and with the extra bells and whistles that allow me to see what my son does through the day. I am very impressed and happy with this school!

Both of my kids have attended Tiny Plum now and they are both thriving! Maryssa and Luke are amazing. They truly care for our kids, even after my oldest went to Kindergarten, they still ask how he is doing. Both learned so much and have grown emotionally as well. My 2-year-old is counting like she was born doing it and comes home saying new words and phrases all the time. Tiny Plum encourages their students to be independent thinkers and problem solvers. I cannot recommend them enough. Count yourself blessed if you are lucky enough to be a part of the Tiny Plum family.

I have volunteered with Maryssa on a number of occasions during her career. She is very passionate about her students and parents by giving them the best educational experience possible. She is transparent with parents by letting them call during the day and informing them about their child's day, all to settle the parents’ minds at ease. She regularly creates new works for her students so they have a wide range of new activities to do during school. It is a rarity to find a teacher who listens to the children.

I have previously worked with Maryssa in a different facility, and I can say hands down she loves what she does. She goes out of her way each day to make sure each child gets the one-on-one time and attention they need for their learning style. She uses different educational activities to train and test their brain to help them learn in more than one way. She puts an amazing amount of effort into her children and her lessons and genuinely cares for each of her students. I highly recommend Tiny Plum Montessori to anyone who is looking for a educator that puts her all into her students and their education.
